Sick House SyndromeSick House Syndrome Describes homes with poor living environments, even to the point that the environment becomes hazardous. People who suffer from sick house syndrome complain of symptoms including itching, dizziness, headaches, and skin ailments, but reactioconsiderably among individualsns to particular substances vary .
Most homes are 3 to 5 times more polluted than outside air.
New houses are insulated and sealed so well that no fresh air enters in which creates inadequate ventilation. Moisture builds up but can't escape and that makes a perfect breeding ground for mold. Often bathrooms are vented into the attic and left, not vented to the outside. A few years after a home is purchased the owner is faced with mold in the attic, perhaps requiring a new roof, removal of insulation, and an Ozone treatment to eliminate the mold.
"Sick House" symptoms develop because the house literally can't breathe. As a result, it gets congested with internal pollutants.
Especially in winter, pollutants can be more abundant when air flow is less. Common sources of pollutants in the home are Carpets, Furnace, Fireplace, pressed wood Cabinets & Cupboards, excessive moisture.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) consist of a range of chemicals that are released into the air over time. Often described as that pleasant, "new smell," VOCs can be harmful. Short-term exposure to VOCs can cause headaches, nausea and irritate eyes, throat and nose.
Ozone Shock Therapy is effective in killing surface mold and dust mites. Ozone is also effective at breaking down the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that contribute to Sick House Syndrome. Ozone Shock Treatments are particularly effective for new homes, or recently remodelled homes that have new carpets, paints and other structures giving off VOCs.
